Ground Breaking of Fire Station No. 11 held Friday, May 22

Celebration of growth continues in St. Bernard Parish

St. Bernard Parish President Craig P. Taffaro Jr., along with FEMA and a
host of officials, celebrated Recovery and Growth in St. Bernard Parish with
a Ground Breaking ceremony at the site of the Yscloskey Fire Station No. 11
on Friday.

"Firefighters and residents alike will benefit from this much needed fire
station," said President Taffaro, who stood next to the area where pilings
already are in the ground.

Bill Vogel, the Acting Deputy Director for the Louisiana Transitional
Recovery Office for FEMA, has said FEMA is committed to rebuilding St.
Bernard's fire stations and has dedicated more than $7 million for fire
station construction.

The construction on Fire Station No. 11 that will be paid for with FEMA
funds and insurance proceeds will cost about $1.2 million and should be
completed by the end of the year. The station at 2424 Florissant Highway in
Yscloskey will have elevated living quarters and is being built to mitigate
hurricane conditions, Taffaro said.

Fire Chief Thomas Stone said the station will be a critical asset in this
fishing community.

Devier Construction LLC is the contractor. Stuart Consultants is in charge
of the project's engineering, and L-7 Architects is the firm responsible for
the design. Dennis Tauzin is the project manager for both projects for CDM
which provides oversight for all FEMA-funded projects, and Gil Carlin of the
St. Bernard Parish Department of Public Works is the project manager and
resident inspector.

Three St. Bernard Fire Stations are completed: one on Aycock Street in
Arabi, the Central station at Packenham Drive in Chalmette and one on Bayou
Road in Verrett. The others are operating out of temporary quarters. Chief
Stone said the Yscloskey station is the fifth construction ground breaking,
and ground breakings are imminent at two more: Fire Station No. 6 at Paul
Drive in Meraux and Fire Station No. 8 at Torres Drive in Poydras.
