ST. BENARD CHAMBER OF COMMERCE BUSINESS EXPO A SUCCESS

 

The St. Bernard Parish Chamber of Commerce hosted its 1st Annual "Celebrate
St. Bernard" Business Expo at the St. Bernard Civic Auditorium Grand Ball
Room Saturday, May 30th, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.  The Business Expo was a
great opportunity for the public to learn more about St. Bernard businesses
that have re-opened and what services are available to the community as well
as information on progress from St. Bernard Parish Government, Schools,
Economic Development and Tourism.

 

The Chamber of Commerce event had about 50 businesses participate and five
sponsors: Entergy, Capitol One, Associated Terminals of St. Bernard, Gulf
Coast Bank and Trust, St. Bernard Health Center. 

 

The event featured a Restaurant Row that offered food tastings by local
restaurants, wine tastings, cooking demonstrations from Louisiana Cookin'
magazine's Chefs to Watch and Frank Davis shared his fishing tips along with
lots of great door prizes.

 

St. Bernard Parish President Craig P. Taffaro said it was an important
recovery and growth event.

 

"The Expo was a wonderful success and gave residents and businesses a chance
to come together to celebrate the successes and growth that St. Bernard is
enjoying," President Taffaro said. "It served a reminder that our growth is
fueled by local businesses and residents supporting those businesses by
making their purchases in St. Bernard whenever and wherever they can. Buying
local is each individual's chance to help further the recovery and to
support the local economy."

 

Business Expo Chairman Sam Catalanotto of Ditto's Printing and Copy Center
agreed. "We appreciate the support of the business community and of the
visitors for this first annual event that we surely believe will grow in
size each year and draw more businesses and citizens," Catalanotto said. 

 

The Business Expo Committee included the following Chamber members:
Elizabeth "Gidget" McDougall of St. Bernard Tourist Commission, Stephen
Reuther with Beauregard Homes, Britain Westbrook with the Business Solutions
Center, Rebecca Martin of the St. Bernard Economic Development Commission,
and Ryan Fink with Hiszack Productions and Bonnie Canal with the Louisiana
Small Business Development Center.
