Encouraging Economic Development

This past week four important bills that will extend current tax credits
were passed by the House Ways and Means Committee. House Bill 457 will
extend the digital media production tax credit program, HB 458 will extend
the sound recording production and infrastructure tax credit program, HB 614
will extend the targeted motion picture infrastructure tax credit, and HB
142 will extend the motion picture investor tax credit. The film industry
brought hundreds of millions of dollars into our state last year, and it is
critical that we provide incentives to encourage this continued investment.

Additionally, HB 720, which establishes a Tax Amnesty Program for 2009, was
passed unanimously by the House of Representatives and should be taken up in
the Senate this week. When a similar program was implemented in 2001, the
state collected nearly $150 million in back taxes - which will help ease
some of the pressures on critical services needed by our people. It is
important that we find innovative ways to increase state revenues, and this
program will provide help in that area. Read More >

Ensuring Hurricane Preparedness

I joined members of the New Orleans Saints, as well as state and local
officials, in Metairie last week to kick off this year's hur ricane
preparedness campaign. We began this year's Get A Game Plan operations by
announcing the release of two new public service announcements (PSAs) with
the Saints' Devery Henderson, Marques Colston, and Lance Moore, as well as a
private-public partnership with Wal-Mart that is the first of its kind.

The PSAs will begin airing this week on television and radio, and it is
important that every Louisianian take their messages to heart. Preparation
is the key to keeping our families safe during hurricane season, and I hope
that every family will take some time to make their own game plan now. As

everyone.to think about preparedness."

Providing Resources for our Communities

I visited Grayson this past week to announce some important funding for
Caldwell Parish. Communities throughout the parish were awarded a total of
$136,855 in LGAP funds for critical infrastructure improvements, $19,000 in
Community Water Enrichment Funds to ensure safe and clean drinking water,
and $118,000 in Byrne Justice Assistance Grants to support local and state
law enforcement offices.

Sincerely,

Governor Bobby Jindal
