CHALMETTE, La. - Deputies have booked the driver of a SUV with a DWI after
he drove into a convenience store near Chalmette Battlefield, according to
St. Bernard Sheriff's spokesman Steve Cannizaro.

Sidney Lynam, 52, Chalmette, careened through a wall at J & R Quick Stop on
West St. Bernard Highway, near the intersection of Jean Lafitte Parkway just
before noon Tuesday, Cannizaro said.

Lynam lives around the corner from the store, Cannizaro said.

Two employees at the store were injured, though not seriously, Cannizaro
said, and Lynam was not injured. The passenger riding with Lynam also wasn't
injured. Several counters and display areas were overturned after the
accident.

Deputies also booked Lynam with two counts of negligent injury and reckless
operation of a vehicle.
