Victim in Chalmette balcony fall dies

A man injured when he fell off an apartment balcony in Chalmette died
Friday. 

Christi Navidad Grant Ponce, 29, had been taken to University Hospital in
New Orleans in critical condition after the fall early Tuesday at 3015 Jean
Lafitte Parkway, Chief Deputy James Pohlmann of the St. Bernard Parish
Sheriff's Office said. 

Ponce was staying at the apartment for a few days. A woman identified as his
girlfriend told investigators she was awakened by a loud noise, found the
door opened and saw Ponce on the ground below. 

The balcony had no railing. 

Pohlmann said detectives are still investigating but have found no sign of
fall play.
