[StBernard] Big Win for Enforcement of our Immigration Laws

I would like to share some great news with you about the fight to cut down
on the unlawful hiring of illegal immigrants.

Last week the U.S. Senate passed my amendment to require the Department of
Homeland Security to overturn an order from President Obama and continue
its program to alert employers of employees who have social security
numbers that don't match records at the Social Security Administration.

This "no-match" rule provides responsible business owners with an effective
means of identifying illegal workers, thus protecting themselves and their
businesses.

But this rule has been blocked by litigation filed by organized labor and
interest groups who have consistently opposed enforcement of our federal
immigration laws. And the administration gave in to these powerful
interest groups and rescinded the no-match rule last week.

To counter this decision I offered an amendment to stop the
administration's plan to dump the Social Security "no-match" rule and
require DHS to provide employers with notices that they were hiring an
illegal worker.

The Senate unanimously approved my amendment, sending a clear message to
the Obama administration that we will not allow weak immigration laws.

We should be doing all that we can to fight the growing problem of illegal
immigration, and last week we took a step in the right direction toward
doing just that.

Sincerely,
David Vitter
U.S. Senator
