Chalmette ferry resumes operation

NEW ORLEANS - The Chalmette ferry, which was shut down over the weekend, has
re-opened, according to officials with the State Department of
Transportation. 


An inspection of the ferry landing showed that pilings were in need of
immediate repair. 


The vessel, which transports passengers back and forth between Algiers and
Chalmette, will have its normal service hours of 6 a.m. until 8:45 p.m.,
seven days a week.
