The "MRGO Must GO" coalition will hold a community forum in Chalmette next
week to discuss wetlands restoration.

The event will be Aug. 11 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the St. Bernard Council
on Aging, 8201-A W. Judge Perez Drive.

The Army Corps of Engineers recently shut down the controversial Mississippi
River Gulf Outlet with a rock barrier at Bayou La Loutre. Part of the corps'
closure plan includes restoration of some of the wetlands destroyed by the
MRGO.

Panelists at next week's event includes Ron Chapman, a Nunez Community
College history instructor; Timothy Doody, president of the Southeast
Louisiana Flood Protection Authority-East; St. Bernard Parish historian
William Hyland; John Lopez of the Lake Pontchartrain Basin Foundation;
William McCartney, coastal zone management administrator for St. Bernard
Parish government; and Greg Miller, the Corps of Engineers' senior project
manager for the MRGO wetland restoration study.

A news release from St. Bernard Parish government lists Amanda Moore with
the National Wildlife Federation as a contact for more information. Moore
can be reached at 225.229.1944 or MooreA at nwf.org
