RECALL EFFORT FAILED:  St. Bernard President Craig Taffaro said recovery has
always been his focus

Organizers failed to turn in any signatures by this week's deadline

 

The effort to recall St. Bernard Parish President Craig P. Taffaro Jr.
officially failed this week when organizers failed to turn in any signatures
by the 180-day deadline, which was Monday, according to St. Bernard
Registrar of Voters Velma Bourg.

"The recovery will continue with the same momentum as it had in February
when the recall petition started," President Taffaro said. "It has never
slowed down. We invite everyone who wants to partner in the recovery to join
us."

The organizers had 180 days to gather one-third of the registered voters
since initiating the effort on Feb. 17. In St. Bernard Parish, where there
were slightly more than 24,000 voters when the effort began, that means they
would have had to gather about 8,000 signatures to turn over to the
registrar to be verified. Mrs. Bourg said she received no signatures.
