Officials and residents are gathering in St. Bernard Parish this morning for
the school district's 4th annual Day of Reflection, a time for the community
to come together and remember what was lost in Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

During its annual ceremony at Chalmette High School, the school district
will remember the disastrous hurricane with speeches and presentations from
students. Expected to attend are Lt.Gov. Mitch Landrieu, U.S. Rep. Charles
Melancon and U.S. Den. David Vitter.

But today's event, which begins at 8:30 a.m., isn't just about remembering
the destruction of Katrina. As part of the ceremony, school district
officials will lead a second-line parade across Judge Perez Drive to the
district's new 9th Grade Academy, where they will snip the ribbon to
formally open the brand new school and community resource center.

The Day of Reflection kicks off several events in St. Bernard Parish to
commemorate Katrina.

Saturday morning a service will be held at the parish's Katrina Memorial at
Shell Beach to remember the parish's 163 hurricane victims. And later
Saturday evening, parish government will sponsor a community celebration at
Torres Park in Chalmette to mark the milestones in the parish's recovery
