does anyone have a Channel 76 schedule for the repeat of tonight's Council
was not able to view, but understand the issue of Jacob Canal was discussed.
WDSU TV aired a video last week which showed how the Murphy Oil's Meraux
refinery's processing plant's open ditch system overflowed into the pipeline
easement/parking lot and into Jacob Canal.
Neither EXXON-Houston (Pipeline Group), Collin's Pipeline (owned 50/50 by
EXXON and Murphy Oil), nor Murphy Oil have a LPDES permit from Louisiana DEQ
for the parking lot to drain into Jacob Canal. Additionally, the remediated
lots on Jacob still have a considerable amount of sediment runoff into the
catch basins, which can only be adding to the clogged underground pipes.
It's good to know the canal will be dredged or cleared soon, but its not
protective of public health to allow a petrochemical oil refinery to drain
into neighborhood canals and nearby wetlands.
