Eastern St. Bernard Association Meeting Sept. 28 to Discuss Flood Protection

Residents are invited to attend a Parishwide Town Hall meeting on Monday,
September 28 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Lighthouse Pentecostal Church 7724 E.
St. Bernard Hwy Violet, La. 70092, sponsored by the Eastern St. Bernard
Association.

Robert (Bob) Turner, Jr., P.E., Regional Director for the South-East
Louisiana Flood Protection Authority, will speak about flood protection and
will address recent improvements to the local levee system, what other work
is presently going on and what improvements have been contracted to be
completed in the near future. Q & A period will follow.

Turner, a Registered Professional Civil Engineer with over thirty years'
experience in the field of engineering, was appointed as the Regional
Director of the South-East Louisiana Flood Protection Authority-East,
charged with the oversight of flood protection for all or part of the five
parishes surrounding Lake Pontchartrain and the governance of the Orleans,
East Jefferson and Lake Borgne Basin Levee Districts on October 18, 2007.

Turner has an extensive background in flood protection and public works,
having previously served as the Executive Director of the Lake Borgne Basin
Levee District here in St. Bernard Parish from 2001 until his current
appointment as Regional Director of the recently consolidated levee district
SLFPAE. From 1993 to 2001, he served as Director of Public Works for St.
Bernard Parish. His other professional experience includes Associate
Engineer at Burk-Kleinpeter, Inc. and Design Engineering Manager at Power
Enterprises, Inc.

He was recently selected to serve on the National Committee for Levee Safety
as our representative for the State of Louisiana. The report of that study
was submitted to our U.S. Congress in January 2009.

Turner is presently working with the Dutch Government on a levee information
system, and has just returned from the Netherlands regarding that project.

This presentation will provide our residents with a broad understanding of
where we are in safety from encroaching waters resulting from hurricane and
other storm activity. Parish residents throughout St. Bernard are encouraged
to attend this very relevant and informative Town Hall.

Additionally, brief reports will be given by Councilman-At-Large Wayne J.
Landry on our hospital update, and by District E Councilman Fred Everhardt
on District E and status of the anti-littering ordinance.
