On Saturday, October 3, United Way for the Greater New Orleans Area,
in partnership with the New Orleans Hornets, is promoting a
community-wide Day of Service. Anyone who donates canned food to the
Community Center of St Bernard at 1107 LeBeau St in Arabi from 9 AM –
3 PM on October 3 will receive one free Hornets ticket for every 5
food items. These food donations will be used to make Thanksgiving
Baskets for local low-income families who use the Community Center's
Mustard Seed Food Pantry.

Canned corn, peas, carrots, fruit, cranberry sauce, gravy, soup, and
yams are all needed, as well as boxes of stuffing mix, bread, and
fresh onions and potatoes. Donors are requested to be sure that cans
are not expired, rusted, or leaking, and that fresh items like bread
and potatoes are not crushed, spoiled, or moldy. Small dents or marks
are ok, but no badly damaged items will be accepted. All cans must
have labels.

At the drop-off site, food items will be counted and the free Hornets
tickets will be sent out by mail. No tickets will be available at the
drop-off site. Tickets may be limited depending on how many people
respond. The Community Center of St Bernard is a United Way partner
agency.
