[StBernard] Why the Homestead Exemption Must Go

Here are some comments that were posted in the sbp forum on nola.com  How
true all of this is, I have no idea.

**I seriously doubt any fees will pass regardless of whether they are
"reasonable" or not. As a resident of this parish I'm already paying some of
the highest homeowners and auto insurance in the state. Then the parish is
collecting millages to run the parish services. While I think there needs to
be additional revenues this plan is inequitable. Only those who have a water
meter, AND are paying for it will pay. I believe many are still on FREE
water service since Katrina and I know there are many doubles, triplexes and
apt. complexes on one meter. Parish Govt. needs to do a better job of
explaining the necessity and cutting costs, then make the imposition of fees
equitable to all users of services. **

**some people still have their pre K meters and are not on the books. When I
finished my house and I went down and told them I was moving in so I would
have to resume paying they didnt know whether i had a meter or not. I did,
but no house for a while.I have been told many are still getting "FREE"
water and sewer and the Water Board doesn't have the employees to read
meters. **

Now some of the most famous of comments on the sbp forum have been preceded
by "I have been told..."   

I don't know if any of this is true or not, but it's something that might be
worth checking out.
