HAMMOND - A Florida contractor jailed in Tangipahoa Parish is accused of
bilking residents of Tangipahoa and St. Bernard parishes of more than
$500,000, the Tangipahoa Sheriff's Office reported Friday.

Donald Tabor, 47, of Delray Beach, Fla., allegedly signed contracts with a
Ponchatoula resident and six St. Bernard Parish residents to deliver and
build modular homes that never arrived, according to statements from the
Sheriff's Office and the state Attorney General's Office.

Tabor owned Sunbrite Homes, which had an office on 41340 E. Interstate 55
Service Road in Hammond.

After receiving complaints that Tabor never delivered the homes or refunds,
authorities shut down Tabor's Hammond office and froze his assets in July,
statements say.

The Sheriff's Office in Palm Beach County, Fla., arrested Tabor on Sept. 15
on a warrant issued by Tangipahoa Parish, statements say.

Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards and Deputy James Travis flew to
Florida and returned Tabor to the Tangipahoa Parish Jail in Amite on
Thursday, where he was booked on one count of theft by fraud.

Tabor will be taken later to St. Bernard Parish for booking there, Attorney
General's Office spokeswoman Jennifer Roche said.
