A security guard was sentenced today to nine months of home arrest for
making bomb threats at the Kenner motel where he worked.

Nicholas Schumaker, 23, of Chalmette had pleaded guilty to two federal
charges of maliciously conveying false information at the Travelodge Airport
at 2240 Veterans Memorial Blvd. He admitted twice placing objects that
resembled pipe bombs near a building belonging to the motel then telephoning
bomb threats to the manager and law enforcement.

U.S. District Judge Kurt Engelhardt placed Schumaker on five years'
probation, including the home arrest provision. Engelhardt, nominated to the
bench by President George W. Bush, also ordered Schumaker to perform 100
hours of community service and pay $1,000 restitution to the Kenner Police
Department.

The case was investigated by the FBI and prosecuted by Assistant U.S.
Attorney Greg Kennedy
