Battle Of New Orleans Lantern Tour Tickets Go On Sale December 1



Experience the "night before the Battle of New Orleans" on a lantern-lit
tour through the American and British camps. On Saturday, January 9,
Chalmette Battlefield of Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve
will host the annual Lantern Tour as part of the 195th anniversary of the
Battle of New Orleans. Chalmette Battlefield, the site of the Battle of New
Orleans in 1815, is located at 8606 West St. Bernard Highway in Chalmette.

The tour will allow participants to eavesdrop on generals planning strategy,
soldiers swapping stories around campfires, and women wondering what fate
has in store for the city of New Orleans. The first tour starts at 5:45
p.m.; tours begin every ten minutes. The evening's last tour begins at 7:15
p.m. Tours last approximately 90 minutes, which includes travel time between
the parking area and the battlefield.



Ticket numbers are limited. All tickets must be purchased by January 5; no
tickets will be sold at the door. Tickets are $5.00 per person; children
under 5 are free and do not need a ticket. Tickets are on sale

* at the Chalmette Battlefield Visitor Center, daily 9:00 a.m.-4:30
p.m. (the center is closed December 25). Cash or check only (make checks
payable to "Eastern National").
* by mail. Include check for the proper amount made payable to
"Eastern National" and mail to Lantern Tour, Jean Lafitte NHP&P, 419 Decatur
St., New Orleans LA 70130. Include a daytime phone number and preferred tour
time. Mail orders should be mailed by December 26.



Lantern Tour parking will be at the St. Bernard Parish Government Complex,
8201 West Judge Perez Drive in Chalmette. Free shuttle buses will take
visitors from the complex to the battlefield. Restrooms and a Hospitality
and Welcome Center will be available at the government complex courtesy of
the St. Bernard Parish Tourism Commission.



Chalmette Battlefield is one of six areas of Jean Lafitte National
Historical Park and Preserve. The battlefield grounds and adjoining national
cemetery are open daily 9:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Admission to the site is free.
