THE TOWER OF LIGHTS created in St. Bernard Parish to thank volunteers

Lighting Ceremony December 14 at 6 p.m. at the Port of St. Bernard

Sen. A.G. Crowe and a committee of community leaders invite everyone to the
lighting ceremony on Monday, Dec. 14 at 6 p.m. at the Port of St. Bernard
for the THE TOWER OF LIGHTS --- A Gift of Thanks to the World from the
Citizens of St. Bernard Parish.

It is hard to imagine that just a few short years ago St. Bernard Parish was
devastated by Hurricane Katrina. Several local leaders have organized an
effort to display St. Bernard's collective gratitude to the faith-based
community along with thousands of volunteers from across the globe that has
kept us on the road to recovery.

As a permanent symbol of the gratitude from the citizens of St. Bernard,
Sen. Crowe has announced that the Port of St. Bernard has joined him in the
creation of the "Tower of Lights" to be displayed on the 540-foot tall Port
of St. Bernard (Kaiser) tower.

"This monumental display of lights will be our way of thanking those that
came to help us in our time of great need," Sen. Crowe said. "Each light on
'Tower of Lights' will represent a person, a group, a church, a city, a
state, a country, a service organization and so on."

The tower this year will begin with Christmas colored laser beams. As funds
become available, the "Tower of Lights" will evolve in to a major St.
Bernard attraction. This gift of thanks to the world from St. Bernard will
be paid for with private contributions and donations.

A "Tower of Lights" committee will be calling on residents and businesses
seeking contributions to help make this project a reality. Please consider
joining the effort to present this historic gift to the world that came to
St. Bernard's rescue in its greatest time of need.

The Port of St. Bernard tower is the tallest structure in Louisiana. Once
completed, people from all over will be drawn to the source of the light
bringing visitors to our shops and restaurants.

The Committee Members are: Senator A.G. Crowe, Chairman; Dr. Robert
Scafidel, Co-Chairman; Andre Neff, Polly Boudreaux, Gidget McDougall, Chief
Deputy Sheriff Jimmy Pohlmann, Gus Riess, Sean Warner, Charles Imbornone,
Judge Dave Gorbaty, and Dr. Hugh Craft.
