If someone flashes St. Bernard Parish deputy's badge No. 1975 be careful, it
may not be a real deputy.

The badge along with the deputy's truck and his commission -- a wallet-sized
document indicating the deputy works for the St. Bernard Sheriff's
Department -- were stolen Friday afternoon in New Orleans.

At about 4 p.m. at Franklin Avenue and Lavender Street, the deputy's
law-enforcement indentifying information and his blue, four-door 2004 Nissan
pickup with license plate W416122 were stolen, said Garry Flot, a New
Orleans Police Department spokesman.

He left his keys in his vehicle and entered a house for a short while, Flot
said. While inside the house, he heard the vehicle start.

"When he looked outside, he observed an unknown subject fleeing with his
truck westbound on Lavender Street, then northbound on Iris Street, then
unknown," Flot said.

Anyone with information about the stolen items is asked to call
Crimestoppers at 504.822.1111 or toll-free at 1.877.903.7867. Callers do not
have to give their names or testify and can earn as much as $2,500 for tips
that lead to an indictment.
