Body found floating in Arabi canal

A pedestrian walking along West Judge Perez Drive in Arabi this morning
discovered the body of a man floating face down in a drainage canal along
the roadway.

The St. Bernard Parish Sheriff's Office was called out to the scene between
Schnell Drive and Center Street about 10 a.m.

St. Bernard Chief Deputy James Pohlmann said detectives have not yet been
able to identify the man, but are talking to nearby business owners to learn
more.

The man, who appeared to be in his thirties, had no money and no photo ID on
his body. Pohlmann said there were no obvious signs of trauma.


The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office is conducting an autopsy to determine
the cause of death.
