St. Bernard Parish Government announces garbage collection can count

Beginning February 15, 2010, St. Bernard Parish Government will implement
and enforce the one can per household garbage collection program. Residents
who currently have two or more cans should contact SDT to arrange for
collection of their second and additional cans at curbside.

Over the next 30 days, residents with active water meter accounts will
receive an identification sticker for their SDT garbage can. Cans with this
sticker will be counted as eligible for pick up as part of the parish
government's twice a week pick up schedule with SDT. Second and additional
cans that are signed up separately with SDT will be issued a different
identifying sticker by SDT. As long as cans have either, the government
issued sticker or the SDT issued sticker, they will be picked up on a twice
a week basis as usual. Cans without a sticker will be removed by SDT during
the normal pick-up days.

A single sticker will be issued by parish government for a single can at
each house address that has an active water meter account. There is no
charge for the sticker issued by parish government. Delinquent water meter
accounts will continue to have garbage collection unless water service is
interrupted.

Additional stickers will be issued directly by SDT upon a service agreement
between the resident and SDT. Residents should contact SDT for more
information.

Small businesses using can service will follow the same guidelines. Any
small business which can operate with the use of one can and has an active
water meter account will be issued a government issued sticker and continue
to be serviced as usual. Additional cans being used by a business will have
to contact SDT to receive sticker(s) based on a service agreement.

Any questions regarding the program should be directed to St. Bernard Parish
Government at 278-4200.
