A 37-year-old woman died Monday night after an apparent hit-and-run accident
along Bayou Road in eastern St. Bernard Parish, according to Louisiana State
Police.

Heather Fike, of the St. Bernard community, was pronounced dead at about 11
p.m. Monday night after being hit twice while walking along Louisiana 46 at
Kingbird Boulevard.

Trooper Melissa Matey, a State Police spokeswoman, said Fike was walking in
the road and got hit by an unknown vehicle. As she was laying in the road,
she was hit a second time by a 2005 Honda Pilot.

She was pronounced dead soon after.

The driver of the Honda Pilot called 911, and police are not pursuing
charges against her.
State Police are seeking any information about the hit-and-run, and ask
residents to call State Police Troop B at 504.471.2775.

Matey said police suspect that Fike was impaired by either alcohol or drugs,
but an autopsy and toxicology reports are still pending. Police do not
suspect the driver of the second car was impaired.
