Yesterday, Senator Landrieu went to the floor of the Senate to strike back
at critics of the Louisiana Medicaid fix she worked to include in the Senate
heath care reform bill. Many of these critics

place

Sen. Landrieu, who has been derided for inserting the fix for her
constituents, said yesterday

00053722.5488.235&gen=1&mailing_linkid=6588> : "Never, never in my life have
I ever, or will ever throw the people of my state under the bus to save my
reputation or my job. I know what I am inside. I don't need anyone to remind
me of the goodness that I have inside. My parents do that, my husband does
that, my children do that for me every day. And I don't most certainly need
anyone, and I don't need this job badly enough."

During her statement, Sen. Landrieu also noted

00053722.5488.235&gen=1&mailing_linkid=6589> that Governor Jindal and the
entire Louisiana delegation had been lobbying for a fix for nearly a year,
and that legislators in Louisiana had even provided the language to insert
into the bill. "Nothing about this effort was secret - it was public from
the very first meeting that happened at the governor's mansion in January,"
Landrieu said. "It was a broadly supported delegation effort from the
beginning. And it was never a condition of my support for the bill."

Sen. Landrieu pointed to a public statement

months before the Senate passed the health care bill, where she "expressed
to Leader Reid the unique challenges Louisiana is facing in terms of
Medicaid," and highlighted numerous newspaper articles and press releases
detailing her efforts to obtain the fix.

Sen. Landrieu ended her floor statement by inviting members from either
party to challenge her claims on the floor. No one accepted her offer.
