Fire damages St. Bernard residence

The St. Bernard Parish Fire Department is investigating a two-alarm blaze in
Meraux's Lexington Place subdvision this afternoon.

Eighteen firefighters responded to the fire, which started inside a detached
garage about noon and spread to the house, said Richard Weiskopf, a
spokesman for the St. Bernard Parish Fire Department.

The owner of the house, located in the 4000 block of Newport Drive, had left
his late-model BMW charging in the garage while he took a shower, and
authorities said it appears the vehicle might have sparked the blaze. 

The fire was contained by 12:52 p.m. No injuries were reported.

No additional information was immediately available.
