Claiborne Bridge to be closed 24-hours a day, seven days a week

Total closure slated for March 15 through May 13; Total closure on weekdays
from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. continues through March 15

Both directions of the Judge Seeber Bridge at Claiborne Avenue in New
Orleans will be closed seven days a week, 24 hours a day from March 15
through May 13, according to the state Department of Transportation and
Development.

Currently, the bridge is closed weekdays, excluding weekends and holidays,
from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through March 15. The bridge closures are to allow for
bridge rehabilitation contract work.

Alternate routes are the bridge at St. Claude Avenue and Florida Avenue in
New Orleans as well as Interstate 510 via Paris Road in Chalmette. The
bridges at St. Claude and Florida are draw bridges and are required to open
for marine traffic. Those bridges are owned and operated by the Port of New
Orleans.

DOTD said the day that the total closure will begin may vary by a day or two
since DOTD is coordinating with U.S.C.G. and marine traffic. Closure updates
will be sent out as mid March approaches. The work by Boh Bros. will consist
of changing of wire ropes, electrical rehabilitation, mechanical
rehabilitation, deck replacement and structural repairs.

There will be two 5-day closures to marine traffic as well between March 15
and April 2. There will be one 5-consecutive 24-hour a day marine closure
beginning on the March 15. (This date also may vary by a day or so depending
on the U.S.C.G.'s evaluation of shipping schedules. Updates will be sent out
as mid March approaches).

Following the first 5-day closure, a two to seven day window will be allowed
to clear congested marine traffic and to allow the flexibility to line up
with shipping schedules, as to cause the least amount of disruption to
marine traffic. The U.S.C.G. will determine the appropriate length of this
window. Again updates will be sent out as mid March approaches. The second
5-consecutive day marine closure will begin immediately following the two to
seven day window previously mentioned.

DOTD appreciates your patience and reminds you to please drive with caution
through the construction/maintenance site and be on the lookout for work
crews and their equipment.
