Dear Friend,

Senators hoping to soon move immigration reform through Congress met at the
White House with President Obama last week to discuss a rapid framework for
accomplishing their goal.

Although few details about the proposed legislation are certain, at the
center of their plan is a new national ID card, which has been shown
ineffective nearly 40 percent of the time due to potential loopholes. And
like previous attempts at immigration reform, the effects will likely allow
more illegal aliens into the country and will place additional burdens on
the nation's financial markets.

This weekend, thousands will march in Washington, DC, to push Congress to
act on immigration reform and grant amnesty to the nearly 12 million illegal
immigrants in the country. While proponents of this legislation hope to
move it this year, rest assured I will continue fighting against amnesty
because it sends the wrong message - that of a reward - to those who have
been evading our laws.

Sincerely,
David Vitter
U.S. Senator
