St. Bernard President Craig Taffaro hosts Boy Scouts fund raising breakfast

Joseph Georgusis named as the Fleur de Lis award recipient for all he has
done for St. Bernard and his efforts to help through the Youth Rescue
Initiative

For one hundred years, young boys have recited the Scout Oath as a rite of
passage while growing up. In fact, more than five million boys have pledged
their honor since the founding of the Boy Scouts of America in 1910.

St. Bernard Parish President Craig P. Taffaro, Jr. recently hosted a "Duty
to God and Country" breakfast at the St. Bernard Civic Center Grand Ballroom
in Chalmette. At the breakfast, local Cub Scouts from Pack 11 at the
Covenant United Methodist Church led the recited the Scout Oath and led the
group in the Pledge of Allegiance.

President Taffaro recognized the recipient of the Fleur de Lis Award, which
is presented to an individual for his/her outstanding contribution to the
metropolitan community and in support of the Boy Scouts' ideal of "Duty to
God and Country."

This year's recipient is Joseph Georgusis, a long-time St. Bernard resident
and businessman responsible for several key local retail developments. In
October 2008, Mr. Georgusis co-founded Youth Rescue Initiative with James
Bernazzani, former FBI Special Agent in Charge of the New Orleans Division,
in the memory of his son, Joey Georgusis.

Mr. Georgusis, who has been a strong supporter of St. Bernard, serves as the
Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Youth Rescue Initiative whose
mission is to improve the quality of life for all citizens of the Greater
New Orleans area by creating structured opportunities and discipline for
at-risk youth through the development of programs designed to build
leadership, confidence, and instill life-long skills. In February of 2010,
the YRI opened its newest office in Chalmette.

The breakfast also served as a kick-off to the "Friends of Scouting
Campaign," a fund-raising effort to support activities for young people in
the Southeast Louisiana Council of the Boy Scouts of America.

For more information about Scouting, contact Lance Brown, Scouting District
Executive, at lanbrown at bsamail.org or 504-889-0388. When makings donations,
Brown said the donor should specific that they are from St. Bernard.
