A man was arrested in the Lower 9th Ward Wednesday morning after he fled the
scene of an attempted theft at the Home Depot store on West Judge Perez
Drive in Chalmette.

According to the St. Bernard Parish Sheriff's Office, deputies received a
call at about 11:15 a.m. regarding an attempted theft at Home Depot. Two men
attempted to flee the scene, but only one made it into the car.

That man, identified as Lucien Jacob, 43, eventually made his way toward New
Orleans on St. Bernard Highway, which becomes St. Claude Avenue in the Lower
9th Ward. He took a circuitous route across the parish line, hitting a car
along the way near the intersection of Patricia and Aycock streets in Arabi
before getting to St. Bernard Highway.

Deputies pursued Jacob into New Orleans where he was involved in a minor
crash near North Robertson and Flood streets, a block off Claiborne, and
tried to flee the scene on foot.
He was captured by the New Orleans Police Department and St. Bernard
Sheriff's deputies under a house on Tupelo Street, about six blocks from
where he abandoned the car.

The Sheriff's Office said no police or bystanders were injured as a result
of the crash and pursuit.

The Sheriff's Office said Jacob, who listed a LaPlace home address, would be
booked in St. Bernard Parish with shoplifting and traffic offenses. It isn't
known what charges he might face in Orleans Parish.

The other suspect, Douglas Lee, 66, of New Orleans, was arrested near the
Home Depot by the Sheriff's Office. He was booked with attempted
shoplifting, the Sheriff's Office said.
