St. Bernard Parish asks Wildlife and Fisheries to modify closure strategy
for fishing grounds

 

St. Bernard Parish officials are asking the Secretary of the Department of
Wildlife and Fisheries to modify the closure strategy for the St. Bernard
Parish fishing grounds. St. Bernard Parish President Craig P. Taffaro Jr
said based on discussions with N.O.A.A., the concern is not just what we see
on top of the water, but the entire food chain of potentially contaminated
species. This includes micro-organisms, all the way to the top of the food
chain in terms of fish and other water species. State officials have a
responsibility to ensure Louisiana seafood is safe for consumption.
