ST. BERNARD, La. - A two-vehicle crash took the life of an 89-year-old man,
according to St. Bernard Sheriff's Office spokesman Steve Cannizaro.

Around 10:45 a.m., Paul Schenck was attempting to make a left turn from a
Landry Court in Meraux on to St. Bernard Highway when he was struck by a
vehicle headed west on the highway, according to Cannizaro.

"The victim was struck on the driver's side and he had to be extricated from
his car," said Cannizaro and he was pronounced dead at University Hospital.

The driver of the vehicle and the passenger -- James Bergeron Jr., 58, and
his wife, Bonnie Bergeron, 46 -- were injured and were taken to Tulane
Medical Center with moderate, non-life-threatening injuries.

Driver impairment isn't suspected in the accident.
