Veteran New Orleans cop arrested in domestic battery incident in St. Bernard

A veteran New Orleans Police Department detective has been suspended from
the force after his arrest on charges of domestic battery and public
intoxication, the NOPD said Tuesday.

Douglas Butler, a 13-year veteran currently assigned to the NOPD's 1st
District, was arrested Saturday night in St. Bernard Parish, according to a
NOPD news release.

After a disturbance, police detained and arrested Butler. He was booked on
charges of domestic battery, disturbing the peace and public intoxication,
the NOPD said.

The NOPD suspended Butler without pay after his arrest. The department's
Public Integrity Bureau, which examines complaints against police officers,
has opened an investigation into the incident.
