Catholic Charities Offers Assistance to Families Affected by the Oil Spill



Catholic Charities, in partnership with St. Bernard Parish President Craig
Taffaro, is offering case management services, mental health and crisis
counseling as well as financial assistance and assistance with providing
everyday items such as baby items and food items from Second Harvest Food
Bank to St. Bernard Parish residents that have been affected by the oil
disaster.



These operations have been ongoing, and Catholic Charities staff are
offering these services at the St. Bernard Catholic Church located at 2805
Bayou Road in St. Bernard, LA. Their hours are from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
daily.



Each Tuesday, $100 food gift cards are being offered at this location to the
first 90 qualifying St. Bernard residents. The gift cards are distributed on
a first-come, first-serve basis. Please bring photo ID (Driver's
License/State ID) showing St. Bernard residency, and one form of the
following supporting documentation: 1) A commercial fishing license, 2)
Current/Previous year's tax return, 3) 1099, 4) Trip tickets, 5) A check
stub from seafood-related industry, or 6) A signed letter from your boat
captain and a copy of his supporting documents as listed above.



Qualifying St. Bernard residents, as listed above, may also take advantage
of case management services being offered at this facility, such as help
with small bills. For example, if an affected resident has a light bill that
cannot be paid, a case management counselor will work with the resident to
pay a bill up to $200.



"We are happy to partner with Catholic Charities and their presence during
this disaster in support of our local community is welcomed and a very
necessary component to the appropriate response," St. Bernard Parish
President Craig Taffaro said today.
