St. Bernard Parish Oil Spill Update as of 1400 6/27/2010

A flyover conducted by flight operations personnel this afternoon on
the
outside (Gulf side) of the Chandeleur Islands confirmed several
100x400 yard
streamers of emulsified recoverable oil. This was confirmed on-scene
by St.
Bernard Parish President Craig Taffaro and British Petroleum
Representative
Bart Laborde, who performed a reconnaissance trip to the area. The
product
is reddish in color and has the consistency of peanut butter. This
oil is
currently located in Division One of St. Bernard Parish waters, and
is
passing through the breaks in the islands and into the Sound.

Two near-shore skimming vessels (St. Bernard commercial fleet
vessels fitted
with brush skimming systems) capable of recovering a total of 9,000
gallons
of oil are already in the area of the Chandeleur Islands. These
vessels were
dispatched to recover oil that had already passed into the Sound as
of this
morning. It is uncertain at this time whether or not these vessels
will be
able to recover the amount of oil in the area with the storage
capacity on
board.

Operations personnel are requesting additional resources,
specifically three
Fast Response Vessels that are located in Venice, LA, which are
designed to
perform offshore skimming operations and have a larger storage
capacity.
Additionally, Command personnel in St. Bernard Parish have requested
assistance from Houma to dispatch fixed wing spotter planes to
direct
response vessels and thereby assist in skimming operations.
