[StBernard] BP spill - animal shelter St Bernard parish

As many of you may have heard on the news, the number of owner turn-ins to the St. Bernard Parish animal shelter has tripled recently due to the economic effect of the BP disaster in our community.
 
I visited the shelter today to try to find out what WE can do to help. I know most of us wish we were washing birds or picking up oil but since we qualify for neither, I thought maybe we could brainstorm and raise some money for the shelter. The local churches recently did a huge food giveway for the humans so maybe it's our turn to help the animals.
 
Anyway, this is the first email to get the process started and ask for ideas (and criticism!!). If we do a fundraiser, we need a venue, entertainment and prizes. Take a look below.
 
PRIZES -- So far there is no shortage of people and businesses willing to donate such haircuts, pedicure, dog grooming, dinners, wine basket, etc based on those I have talked to (and y'all know that I CAN TALK!!)
 
VENUE - I saw a local bar advertise a fundraiser gig for a fee of $5 per head which includes bar brands and beer for 3 hours. Of course we would charge more - $20??.
 
ENTERTAINMENT - Duhh!! DJ, band or other entainment??
 
Y'all -- all this is spinning in my little brain so any suggestions would be appreciated.
 
I'll need help pulling this off and I don't know if I will succeed but I've been wanting to help do ANYTHING since this disaster started and the face of a homeless pet is something that really gets me fired up. FEEL FREE TO PASS ON TO ANY THAT MAY BE INTERESTED.
