Most St. Bernard School Board members elected without opposition

Voters looking for a crowded ballot in St. Bernard Parish on Oct. 2 will
surely be disappointed. Nearly all of the School Board elections scheduled
that day were decided Friday.

Only two of the School Board's 11 districts drew multiple candidates,
meaning 9 members were elected without opposition.

Besides the two School Board races, the ballot will include a race for the
St. Bernard Parish-based seat on the state 4th Circuit Court of Appeal.
Daniel Dysart, D-Chalmette, will meet Jeanne Nunez Juneau, D-Chalmette, in
the race for the court's 3rd District, Div. A seat. Incumbent Judge David
Gorbaty of St. Bernard Parish is not seeking re-election.
Judge Roland Belsome, D-New Orleans, was re-elected without opposition to
one of the court's at-large seats.

In the School Board races, most of the incumbents were returned to office
without opposition.

William Egan, D-Arabi, won re-election to the 2nd District; Joe Long Sr.,
R-Chalmette, was re-elected to the 5th District; Hugh Craft, D-Chalmette,
was re-elected to the 6th District; Cliff Englande, no party, Meraux, was
re-elected to the 8th District; Henderson Lewis, D-Violet, was re-elected to
the 9th District; interim board member Ron Nicosia, D-St. Bernard, won a
full term in the 10th District; and incumbent Donald Campbell, R-St.
Bernard, was re-elected to the 11th District.

Current 3rd District member Lynette DiFatta, R-Arabi, was elected without
opposition to the 1st District post. Incumbent Herman Bonnette did not seek
re-election there. Newcomer Sean Warner, no party, Chalmette, won the 4th
District seat without opposition. Incumbent Sharon Hanzo did not seek
re-election.

Seventh District board member Diana Dysart, D-Chalmette, was the lone
incumbent to draw a challenger, Joe Sherwood, R-Chalmette.

The most crowded field is in the 3rd District, where three candidates seek
the open seat: Darleen Pitre Asevedo, no party, Chalmette; Rashelle
Vandenborre, D-Chalmette; and Louis Wineski III, D-Chalmette
