Report on Oil Sightings throughout Coastal Louisiana

BATON ROUGE - The below is a situational awareness report of oil impacted areas led by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, the Louisiana Army National Guard and local governments.

Note: The information in this report has been forwarded to the federal incident command post in Houma, which is composed of U.S. Coast Guard and BP officials. This report consists of newly impacted areas, and does not serve as a comprehensive listing of impacted areas.

Sightings Report July 13, 2010


St. Bernard Parish:

* Sighting: Oil 30% coverage of the shoreline 1 mile long by 5 yards wide located on the SE side of Turtle Pen Isle.
* Sighting: Oil impacting unnamed islands located between Codfish Point and Point Lydia.
* Sighting: Oil impacting beach located on the SE side of Deadmans Bayou 2.25 miles NE of Catfish Pass.
* Sighting: Oil impacting shore of an unnamed island located 1 mile NE of Rawhead Island.

Plaquemines Parish:

* Sighting: 3 feet by 6 feet patch of brownish red oil located on the N shore of Black Bay 1 mile NE of Grise Bourbe Island.
* Sighting: Emulsified oil located offshore 50 miles ENE of North Pass.
* Sighting: Oil sheen located offshore 15 miles SE of Northeast Pass.
* Sighting: Oil sheen with tar balls located in Zinzin Bay 0.50 miles E of Taylors Pond.
* Sighting: Oil sheen with tar balls located in Taylors Pond.
* Sighting: Oil sheen with tar balls located in West Bay 2.75 miles SE of Bayou Alphonse.
* Sighting: Band of brown oil mile wide located offshore 9 miles W of Stake Island Bayou.
* Sighting: Oil sheen located offshore 13 miles W of Stake Island Bayou.
* Sighting: Oil sheen located offshore 25 miles W of Stake Island Bayou.
* Sighting: Oil sheen located offshore 20 miles SW of Sandy Point
* Sighting: Oil sheen 2 miles long located offshore 13 miles SW of Sandy Point.
* Sighting: Oil sheen located offshore 13 miles S of Grand Terre Island
* Sighting: Oil sheen located in Cat Bay 4 miles NE of Grand Terre Islands.
* Sighting: Oil sheen located .25 miles S of Saint Marys Point.
* Sighting: Oil sheen located in Bay Jimmy.
* Sighting: Oil sheen located in Bay Batiste 4 miles NE of Big Island.
* Sighting: Oil sheen located Wilkinson Bay 3.5 miles NE of Saint Marys Point.
* Sighting: Oil impacting the shoreline located on the S shoreline of Bayou Wilkinson.
* Sighting: Oil impacting marsh grass located on an unnamed island 2 miles NW of Telegraph Point.
* Sighting: Oil located offshore 6.5 miles WSW of Stake Island extending SSE for 8 miles.
* Sighting: Oil sheen located at 123 W.Shirley Road, Port Sulphur.

Jefferson Parish:

* Sighting: Oil sheen located in Barataria Bay 1.25 miles NE of Bayou Cholas.

Lafourche Parish:

* Sighting: Oil sheen located at the mouth of Pass Fourchon.

Terrebonne Parish:

* Sighting: 3 ribbons of light oil measuring 15 yards by 0.25 miles each, with 4 inch tar balls, located in area extending from Oyster Bayou Lighthouse to 3.7 miles S off-shore.
* Sighting: 15 feet by 0.5 miles long reddish-orange oil ribbon located 1.5 miles S of Taylors Bayou.
* Sighting: Light patch of oil measuring 5 yards by 0.5 miles with tar balls located in the southern mouth of Bayou Grand Caillou and Grand Bayou du Large.
* Sighting: Oil in marsh grass located 1 mile N of Saint Elaine Pass.
* Sighting: Moderate oil patches located on the western tip of West Timbalier Island.
* Sighting: A patch of moderate measuring approximately 12 feet x 4 feet, oil located in the grass on northwest shore of Bay Lost Reef.
* Sighting: Oil impacting marsh located in Cocodrie at 6910 hwy 56.
* Sighting: Orange globules and heavy sheen impacting the bayou located on the S side of Caillou Lake from Bayou Grand Caillou extending W to Bayou Voisin.
* Sighting: Oil impacting the S side of Grand Bayou Du Large
* Sighting: Oil impacting shore located in Locust Bayou 1 mile S of Point Au Fer Oil Field.
* Sighting: Heavy orange globules of oil 1 mile by 2 miles in size S of East Bay Junop impacting the shoreline on Pelican Island.

Orleans Parish:

* Sighting: 5 feet by 5 feet patch of lightly oiled shoreline, located on the N shore of Lake Borgne 5 miles W of the mouth of Rigolets Pass.

Cameron Parish:

* Sighting: A single tar ball located 7 miles W of Lower Mud Lake.

Iberia Parish:

* Sighting: Tar balls located on the southwestern shore of Marsh Island.

Vermilion Parish:

* Sighting: 40 feet by 100 feet oil mass located 18.55 miles SW of Marsh Island.
