Plane crash kills 1, injures another

BELLE CHASSE, La. -- A seaplane crashed near Pointe a la Hache in
Plaquemines Parish on Saturday morning, killing one person aboard and
injuring another, the Plaquemines Parish Sheriff's Office said.

The plane was operated by Belle Chasse-based Southern Seaplane. The company
would not provide details of where it was headed. 

Sheriff's spokesman Maj. John Marie says the condition of the injured person
is not known. Identities of the victims have not been released.

Federal investigators are en route to the site. 

Jonathan Groveman, spokesman for the unified oil response command, said one
of its boats arrived at the scene and called in a 911 alert.

He said the aircraft was not operating with spill responders. "It was an
unfortunate but coincidental event," he said.
