17 oil sightings in St. Bernard Parish in one day, reports continue to come
in

There were 17 oil sightings in St. Bernard Parish waters yesterday. These
sightings ranged from small areas of sheen, to mile-long stretches of brown
oil, to 3- to 4-mile long patches of tar balls. Wildlife and marsh were also
affected in some of these areas. Oil was confirmed in Dead Man Bayou,
Treasure Bay, in the area of the North Islands, Comfort Island, Taylor Pass
and in and around the northern tip of the Chandeleur Islands (both inside
the Chandeleur Sound and on the Gulf side of the islands).

Reports of confirmed oil sightings are continuing to come into operations
this morning. Beach impact was confirmed on the shorelines of the leeward
side of the Chandeleur Islands. Crews have been deployed to the beach areas
to contain and remediate the shoreline.

Task forces were deployed today to recover oil east of Comfort Island and in
and around the northern tip of the Chandeleur Islands.
