Laura Bush will be the featured speaker during the St. Bernard Parish school
system's annual Day of Reflection breakfast Aug. 27.

This year's event marks the fifth year the school district and students of
Chalmette High School have held the Day of Reflection to commemorate
Hurricane Katrina and the rebuilding of the school system and community. The
event annually draws several hundred people.

Hurricane Katrina devastated St. Bernard Parish and its schools in 2005.
Since then, the parish and school district have made remarkable strides in
their recovery.

The breakfast is at 8:30 a.m. in the gymnasium on the Lacoste Campus of
Chalmette High School.

In addition to remarks delivered by Bush, Chalmette High students will host
a "walk through time reflecting the resilience of the school district and
the community over the past five years,'' the school district said in a news
release.

Tickets are $10 and can be ordered at the St. Bernard Parish School Board's
Administration Office, 200 E. St. Bernard Highway. Tickets will be
distributed on a first-come-first-served basis. Attendees must be prepared
to present their individual tickets along with photo identification for
admission, the school district said.
