St. Bernard Parish Recreation Department kicks off its football season
Saturday, September 18

About 350 players in four age groups from 5- to 12-year-olds will play in
this fall's youth football league that kicks off Saturday, September 18,
with games all day, beginning at 9 a.m. Twenty-three local and out-of-parish
teams will play in the league that will run through November. For the last
three years, the numbers of St. Bernard children playing in St. Bernard
Recreation Department leagues have continued to grow. This year, those local
children registered to play represents an increase of more than 35 percent
over last year's numbers.

"Offering our children a first-class recreation department is critical," St.
Bernard Parish President Craig P. Taffaro, Jr. said. "It's provides a
wonderful outlet for family together time. It is another sign of our growth
and recovery as we continue to show the metropolitan area and beyond how far
we have come."

This year's Homecoming Games and Homecoming Parade will be Oct. 23 at the
Hannan Sports Complex. The parade will start at Joseph Davies Elementary and
end at Hannan. Everyone is invited to come and enjoy all the football
activities and support the children, especially at the Homecoming Parade.

Additionally, the third Annual Buccaneer Bowl will take place Nov. 6-7 at
Chalmette High School's Bobby Nuss Stadium where teams from around the state
will play in a two-day tournament.
