Work on Claiborne Bridge delayed to save holiday shopping

President Craig Taffaro, council members, business owners work with DOTD to
change scheduled closure

As a result of discussions among St. Bernard Parish President Craig P.
Taffaro, Jr., St. Bernard Parish Council members, local businesses and state
Department of Transportation and Development representatives, the work that
would have closed the Claiborne Avenue Bridge next month will be delayed
until after Mardi Gras.

"This is a wonderful example of state officials working with local officials
and business leaders in a cooperative manner to help local merchants have a
successful holiday shopping season by not impeding traffic during this
critical time of the year for retailers," Taffaro said.

Taffaro said Mike Stack of the DOTD agreed to make the changes to the
schedule so the bridge won't be closed as planned from early November
through the holidays.
