"should pay attention to what Jindal is doing with higher education."

Whoa, there, Anon.

TOPS is a great program, for sure. However, there are some programs (and
serious lack of funds from Federal to state, and state to local these days)
that "bleed" into this issue undoubtably. One might say the old adage
applies: "The good gotta suffer fo' da bad!"

I'd speculate to say that if the funding wasn't absorbed by those who raise
their own salaries in government, and those who suck up the welfare checks
and services like a 400 pounder does several Happy Meals, to corruption by
the masses, things might be a bit different, I'd say.

Causes include the "illegals element" and also those who love bearing 10
kids with a "stepfather". He, who meanders into the home for a couple of
weeks--then leaves when the kids torment him (and he has no anchor to keep
him in that house, so he burns a path outwardly). The, there are the
illegals who come in by 300,000 numbers to about half million or more a
year. What these do to the communities are incomprehensive.

Now, there are the leeches and thieves (there always have been since time
began). The leeches are good for taking and never giving. They absorb until
they have blisters on their fingers while the thieves launder money in every
aspect of government and business, corporate or small business "earning a
second living unbeknownst to the public and clients.

It all boils down to what I've heard Beck say: Honesty and sacred honor has
gone the way of a belief in God--probably by half of all Americans. (oh,
some say they believe, but methinks they do so only at the behest of not
being chastised by their peers, family, friends and business associates).
They give $10 in one hand and steal $20 in the other.

To the question of education. We all know how important education has become
to the success of an individual and his/her life. Education can separate the
stupid from the intelligent, make the difference between a "shovel ready
labor job" (of which Obama first claims is being created, then denies it!)
and an opportunity of advancement and more comfortable life for one and
their family. However, because the economy was ruined by BOTH parties this
past 10 suffering from years of socialistic and corporate greed. We ALL are
commiserating at every level of this socio-economic stair-step in society.
Yet, we must never forget the costs that disasters and wars have caused
these past 10 yrs in America). We all will need to sacrifice during these
tough times. Next to my parents suffering the Great Depression of the 30's,
it's the worst I've seen during the past 3 yrs. Unfortunately, there is
reachable end in sight. Moreover, Jeremiah Wright's favorite son, Obama and
company, doesn't have a clue why/how we can't get out of it any quicker.

I do believe one thing: Politically speaking, governments have fallen during
incidents such as massive/harsh economic times and if Obama is pulling the
stings as he believes will fulfill the ends to the means, America (now a
Socialistic Capitalism country). It's one step before complete socialism and
two before the "withering away of the state" (aka communism).

Finally, just about every state is cutting costs at every level, including
education ( where we now rank almost dead last--probably since Noah was
sailing the undulating seas). A pity, but it's the reality that money is
more than just tight. It's simply not readily available without Obama upping
the ante--past the 14 Trillion dollars he's placed upon us.

Someone once proclaimed, "Oh, the humanity of it!" (Herbert Morrison,
Hindenburg Disaster). But, if America doesn't stick its neck above water in
the next few years, we're going to experience a "lot worse", not only in
education cuts, but riots in the street and a possible revolution in this
21st century not unlike the other revolutions in past European times where
people were hungry and would march in the streets (not with signs, but
pitchforks and more damaging weapons of choice). Bleak, at best. And that's
been quite "positive" about this dilemma.

Hopefully an education cut is the mildest of our upcoming woes.

Hopefully, we pray.

anyone planning to attend LSU or another state university, with or without
TOPS scholarship, should pay attention to what Jindal is doing with higher
education. if it continues, students will be in very over crowded
classrooms, while others enrolled in certain programs will have to transfer
from one state university to another. our best and brightest will continue
to exit the state for better opportunity.

there is a need to adjust budgets (the article about Pennington Medical is
an example). what's disappointing to me is Jindal just slashed the budgets
without a plan---- although he did give a year or two notice.
