A man wanted on a warrant for raping a teen-ager multiple times in St.
Bernard Parish has surrendered to authorities.

Michael Engolia, 56, of Chalmette, gave himself up Sunday, the St. Bernard
Parish Sheriff's Office said. He remains in St. Bernard Parish Prison and no
bond has been set in his case, Chief Deputy Sheriff James Pohlmann said.

Engolia called authorities and surrendered at his home, the Sheriff's Office
said.

Engolia is accused of raping a teen-ager multiple times between June and
October of this year, Pohlmann said, but the female teen feared for her life
and didn't report the attacks to authorities. She did, however, confide in a
member of her church, who notified the Sheriff's Office.

When the Sheriff's Office announced last month that it was looking for
Engolia, authorities distributed a photo of Engolia sporting long hair and a
bushy beard.

When he surrendered Sunday, Engolia had shorter hair and a neatly trimmed
beard, based on a new mug shot distributed by the Sheriff's Office on
Tuesday.
