This really doesn't surprise me a bit. I once saw a "crazed driver" of a
wheelchair, riding it along Judge Perez around Murphy's going to Meraux from
Chalmette. I wonder if the chair had a break-tag and clean windows?

I know the driver's mind was a little foggy because people die trying to
ride their "vehicle" on/near the highway.

The pedestrian killed Thursday evening while walking across East St. Bernard
Highway at Ventura Drive in Chalmette has been identified as 59-year-old
Lydia Beltaken Fairlough of Chalmette.



Police are investigating the crash that occurred at approximately 5:40 p.m.
when Fairlough, using a wheelchair for support while walking, stepped into
the southbound lane of LA 46 from the center turning lane and into the path
of a Dodge Avenger. The Dodge first struck the wheelchair, investigators
said. Fairlough was pronounced dead on the scene.

According to Louisiana State Police Troop B, speed and impairment are not
suspected as factors in the crash. Blood results are pending for the
24-year-old male driver, while toxicology results are pending for Fairlough.
The crash remains under investigation, and no criminal charges have been
filed at this time.
