Grand Opening and Christmas at the Farmers’ Market at the Aycock Barn to be
Wednesday, December 15

Vendors include those selling produce and home décor, jewelry, Christmas
gifts and more

St. Bernard Parish President Craig P. Taffaro, Jr., the Parish Council and
the Tourist Commission will hold a Christmas Party complete with vendors,
refreshments and tours after the 5 p.m. ribbon cutting ceremony on
Wednesday, December 15 at the Aycock Barn/Open Air Market in the historic
district of Old Arabi.

The project at 409 Aycock Street involves $2.1 million of FEMA funded work
to convert the Aycock Barn into a family-friendly open air market complete
with vendors and pop-up fountains for the children. President Taffaro said
the facility will be used as an open air market and for public gatherings
and neighborhood concerts. The facility has interior space for small
gatherings. It will host the St. Bernard Tourism and Visitors’ Center.

At today’s event, visitors will be greeted by a variety of open air market
vendors, including those selling produce, truffles, pastries, cakes,
muffalettas, and hot sauce. Crafts and product booths will be offering home
décor, chimineas, candles, massage oils, cookbooks, a variety of local
photographs, including ones of Old Arabi, artwork, ornaments, purses,
jewelry and more. Additionally, the Chalmette Elementary School Bell Choir
will perform at 6:30 p.m., and there will be a visit from Santa Claus.
