Bourbon Street bar patron injured while delivering blow to punching bag

A Lousiana woman is suing a Bourbon Street bar in Orleans Parish Civil
District Court, claiming she injured her leg while playing the bar's
punching bag game.

New Orleans attorneys Paul Mayeux and Robert Manard filed a lawsuit on
behalf of Katherine Couvillion on Jan. 18. The suit names Diamond Bourbon
Inc. and Chalmette Amusement Company Inc. as defendants.

The suit claims that while a patron at the Diamond's Beerfest Bar on Bourbon
St. in February 2010, Couvillion was playing the boxing game owned by
Chalmette Amusement. The suit states that when she went "to deliver her blow
to the punching bag" she fell and injured her leg and ankle, "necessitating
surgery with hardware implantation."

The plaintiff alleges that Diamond "allowed an unreasonably dangerous
condition to exist on its premises because of the amount of beer and other
liquids that were spilled on the base of the machine."

Chalmette Amusement is accused of failing to "warn users of the device of
the inherently slippery nature of the diamond plated base," among other
charges which they claim resulted "in an unreasonably dangerous condition
being created."

The suit seeks payments for past and future medical expenses, mental pain
and anguish, disfigurement and other damages.

This case has been assigned to Judge Ethel Juline.
