Jon Huntsman, Jr., former governor of Utah, is a very smart opportunist.

In announcing his "exploration" into a 2012 presidential run, Jon Huntsman
Jr. knows exactly what he doing - and knows how to take advantage of an
opportunity. Think about it: he now has going for him all the basic
elements necessary to run a strong, via campaign on a national level. And
it doesn't hurt him to have former Ambassador to China on his resume, being
fluent in Mandarin Chinese. Let's examine each necessary component:

(1) Finances: between he and his family they could fund well over $150
million out of their own pocket and not even feel it, then he's got the
worldwide Mormon network to raise funds - easily another $70-100 million;
(2) Organization: as I like to call it "bodies" or "foot soldiers" - can
you say the national Church of Jesus Christ and Latter Day Saints. This
means Huntsman immediately has 100,000+ well organized volunteers in every
county in every state in the U.S. And their very mobile, especially on
bicycles; (3) Political Base: Besides attracting huge numbers of
traditional Republican supporters, he will be a "Tea Party" favorite. He's
already accomplished this by hanging closely to and praising Sarah Palin,
plus he has his home state of Utah, (4) Political Advantage: this means he
has something over other potential GOP candidates on ideology and track
record. By Huntsman entering the race he immediately takes away just about
everything Mitt Romney (another Mormon) was depending on. Plus, unlike
Romney, Huntsman had one of the highest efficiency ratings of any state
administration when he was Governor of Utah - and did not implement any type
of government program that could be labeled as "socialist" - unlike Romney
in Massachusetts who installed his own version of public "Obamacare" system
which has failed miserably. This leads to the final point (5) Political
Attractiveness: Huntsman simply put "comes across better" than Romney.
Plus, Huntsman knows his father is extremely close to Glenn Beck, which you
know Beck will eventually back him. Since nearly half the country watches
or listens to Beck at least a couple of time a week, that keeps Huntsman
constantly in front of a huge national audience - and because Beck will like
him, that makes Huntsman politically attractive to about half of the
country. And then, if he selects a black American as he VP mate, it's over
for Obama.

Like I said, Huntsman knows exactly what he's doing. If I were someone
looking to latch on to a winning Presidential campaign to land a good
political job afterwards, this is the candidate where you can still get in
on the ground level and go far. It's not just that he will be a serious
contender - he already is - even if you're not yet familiar with him.but you
will be.
