Turning the TIDE



Special funding is available for Training, Information, Development and
Employment (TIDE) for employers and workers affected by the Deepwater
Horizon Oil Spill.

Learn about the program by attending the 2nd Town Hall Meeting on February
25 at 10:00 AM at the Council Chamber at the Government Complex at 8201 W.
Judge Perez.

Who is eligible:


* Employers whose business has been impacted by the oil spill.
* Workers and family members whose family livelihood was affected by
the oil spill.
* Anyone impacted by the oil spill who is interested in starting their
own business.


Services available:


* Workers:

* Learn new job skills
* Assess your current skills
* Connect with employers
* Get on-the-job training
* Get supportive services, such as child care, transportation,
uniforms, etc.

* Businesses:

* Connect with qualified workers
* Get incentives such as workers' wages paid while they train
on the job
* Get up to $5,000 to support business operations

* Entrepreneurs:

* Get valuable assistance to start your own business
* Get free small business training from nationally recognized
experts

These services are funded through a $10 million Oil Spill National Emergency
Grant from the U.S. Department of Labor.
The grant also requires the LWC to seek reimbursement from BP for grant
services.

Services are provided in connection with existing workforce development
programs operated by the LWC through its network of Business & Career
