Save the Date for a townhall meeting to be hosted by Murphy Oil Meraux
refinery.

There will be an evening community townhall meeting about the recent US EPA
consent decree with Murphy Oil. 
 
We have not yet received any information about the date or location, but
expect the meeting to be sometime in late March~early April.  It may be
published in the local newspaper, hopefully with a few weeks notice.

The refinery has marked the greenspace in the Ventura-Despaux neighborhood
for placement of an ambient air monitor. The consent decree requires
pollution control technology that should, after 5 years, bring about an
improvement to the flaring in the neighborhood . A statement was made in a
Murphy Oil CAP meeting that another refinery expansion plan may occur during
the installation of these pollution controls.  The flare gas recovery system
should be completed by late December 2016. A supplemental project will cover
two waste water treatment tanks, reducing VOC emissions by almost a ton per
year. 
 
After the townhall meeting, Murphy Oil should begin monthly meetings open to
the public.  Residents have requested these meetings begin around 7pm to
give people time to return from work and have their family meal.
