This is the "letter to the editor" of the TP I sent in. TP staff called me
Wed to confirm so maybe it will publish Friday or so. I saw the same info in
nola blogs/comments re: Jarvis deBerry's article Wed and thought it a good
idea to put it out there.

Please. Place the race card face down. St. Bernard's fight against the
apartment complexes is no different than that of our New Orleans East
neighbors.

Cases in point. Morrison Homes proposed to build 36 homes single family
homes adjacent to Lake Carmel with a 15 yr lease to own government program.
Residents opposed the program based on loss of property value and quality of
life. The N.O. City Council killed the measure by the rejecting the plan in
August 2009, thanks to the support of Councilwoman Cynthia Willard-Lewis and
Senator Duplessis. Subsequently, Levy Gardens proposed 100 mixed income
townhomes next to the exclusive Eastover community. A white developer
opposed by black politicians. Deal killed. St. Bernard shares the same
concerns as our neighbors in Lake Carmel and Eastover. We are no different.
